Recent Suriname Event – The Next High Growth Market

Last week the Caribbean Council hosted an online event focused on Suriname’s economic transformation, its preparations for commercial oil production, and the opportunities for UK companies.

Our members were pleased to be joined by key speakers, including HE Jane Miller OBE, British High Commissioner to Guyana and Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname; Kathleen Healy, British Honorary Consul in Suriname and Managing Director of CIC; and Patrick Healy, CEO of VSH’s holding company.

The event discussed the significant change Suriname is undergoing, with a historic election approaching and the country preparing for its oil production launch in 2028.

This briefing highlighted the opportunities available to UK companies looking to enter the market as Suriname experiences an economic and political transformation.

Key Highlights:

  • An introduction to Suriname’s market
  • The country’s economic outlook
  • Emerging oil and gas sector with timelines for production
  • The potential effects of Suriname’s upcoming election
  • The ease of doing business in Suriname
  • Discussions on risk factors, key sectors with potential and opportunities for UK investment
  • Logistics and shipping in Suriname
  • The Dutch influence and relationship to the country
  • Q&A session regarding future infrastructure projects and the political landscape in the region

As Suriname approaches its anticipated oil production milestone in 2028, the event concluded with a call to action for UK businesses to engage early, build strategic partnerships, and position themselves for growth.
