Dispute Resolution - Mediation Services

Mediation Services are a highly effective method to resolve commercial disputes. It can be quick, confidential, and cost-effective. The process lasts just one or two days – and can be arranged in a few weeks or even days. 

It also offers an excellent way to resolve an emerging dispute whilst preserving business relations and finding an amicable solution which suits both parties.  It is also exceedingly successful – over 80% of cases referred get settled. 

The Caribbean Council offers a mediation service to assist disputing parties to resolve their commercial disputes. At least one of the parties normally needs to be a member of the Caribbean Council or sign up as a member. 

We understand that every dispute is unique, and we are committed to providing personalised attention and guidance throughout the resolution process. Mediation requires both parties to sign up to, and contribute to the cost of, the mediation process and it can be applied to disputes in all areas of commercial life including:

  • Property
  • Cross border trade
  • Contractual disputes
  • Shipping
  • Intellectual property

 

Our goal is to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients while minimising the time, cost, and stress. We are able to facilitate a range of expert mediators which are accredited by the Society of Mediators. Our principal mediator is Ms Lisa Weston.

Meet Lisa Weston 

Lisa Weston is the Chair of the WM Legal Mediation Panel and has enjoyed a broad commercial-chancery practice as a Barrister, acting in both High Court and County Court disputes across a wide range of practice areas, including;

  • Contract (commercial and consumer)
  • Wills and Probate (both contentious and non-contentious)
  • International investment disputes
  • Property and finance litigation
 

Previously Head of a well-known set of Chambers and instrumental in establishing the Mediation Panel there, Lisa is now Head of Chambers at Royal Court Chambers and chair of WM Legal’s ADR and Mediation Panel (www.wmlegal.online). 

She is a Society of Mediators accredited mediator and WM Legal is registered with the Civil Mediation Council (CMC).

All members of the WM Legal Mediation Panel are accomplished Mediators and/or Mediation Advocates, fully accredited with extensive experience including two-way and multi-party disputes in complex international commercial and investment disputes, landlord and tenant, breach of contract and workplace matters.  With a facilitative mediation style, all members of the panel come from a diverse range of backgrounds offering a robust yet respectful style of mediation to facilitate all parties in reaching workable agreements.
