The Caribbean Council is pleased to present a few highlights from our recent UK Business Mission to Guyana 2024. Our fourth trade mission to the beautiful country of Guyana in as many years, with our largest group yet of companies, across a wide range of sectors including shipping and logistics, high-tech manufacturing, transportation expertise, construction materials, construction equipment, environmental monitoring, security and many more.
The mission launched with an an engagement with Minister of Finance, Hon Dr. Ashni Singh in which he set out how the Government was translating the country’s phenomenal economic growth trajectory into a transformation of the country which would improve the lives of Guyanese people and invest in the long-term infrastructure required for Guyana’s long-term economic future. Investments in roads and ports were providing access to new markets and opening up new productive economic activities in the country. Investments in housing, hospitals and schools were being undertaken at a record pace. Describing their work as a marathon at a sprint pace, Dr Singh welcomed the delegation and the skills, investment and capability they bring to the country and encouraged them to work with local partners for a better future for all.
Day 2 concluded with a wonderful Networking Reception at the Residence of the British High Commissioner, Her Excellency Jane Miller.
The event saw over 150 people in attendance with senior figures from across Guyanese businesses, the public sector and civil society. Guests of honour included His Excellency, President Irfaan Ali, and Finance Minister, Hon Ashni Singh.
During his keynote speech, His Excellency President Irfaan Ali welcomed contributions from the UK including both the private sector and the Government, highlighting positive strides towards economic diversification and the growth of Guyana.
Our delegates participated in a busy programme of meetings with leading ministers across the day including Vice President Jagdeo, Minister Bishop Edghill and Minister Deodat Indar.
